The idea of Congruence Counseling Group started with a conversation over lunch in the Spring of 2019. Donna Bell and Leslie Stevens, two African American mental health practitioners, talked about more and more people approaching them looking for a therapeutic space that spoke to a diversity of experiences. A part of the reason that we built this practice was to create a community of practitioners who reflected the diversity of folks who came to see us. We saw a need that existed in the community for clients of diverse experiences and backgrounds to be able to see and receive help from clinicians with whom they identify. With over 20 years of combined experience, we decided to build a private practice group that would address that need. We built this practice with YOU in mind. We are proud to be a Black-owned and woman-owned mental health practice serving the needs of our community.
We came together with a shared vision to provide outpatient individual and couples therapy for a diverse community of adolescents and adults with an eye towards inclusion and equity. We serve all members of our community. We honor and recognize the acute needs of Black People, People of Color, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
We are actively building a practice based on a vision that specializes in helping clients overcome their challenges and achieve their personal goals while improving their competence, capacity and productivity. We see our clients as both individuals and as members of a larger community, a community in which we all live and work. By attending to the deep heart work of therapy, we are healing our community.
Our mission is to meet the current growing need for quality mental health services in a way that moves our client from surviving to thriving. We strive to provide access to these services, in an environment that feels safe. We have created an environment that welcomes and supports all people. We also aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our employees. We invest in helping our employees be their best selves and provide quality training for the next generation of providers.
